It took me a few more days then I expected, and bare with me because my caps locks key has come off and i havent got around to fixing it so i will probably be very grammatically incorrect, this blog!! stupid caps lock. so last friday night, me and all the girls left for silverbay, new york. its about 4 hours away from here (without traffic). we were originally going to take one minivan but they wouldn't rent to people under 25 so we had to rent two cars instead. so in the best car was me, frannie (driver), steph and sarah and in the other not so best car was alissa, alice (driver), lou and emma. we hit awful traffic going over the tappan zee bridge (very long scary bridge across hudson river) and it ended up taking us about 6 hours in total to get to lake george, where the silverbay ymca is. it was a beautiful area right on the lake, with beautiful trees and brooks and mountains surrounding. it was suppose to rain however we were lucky and didnt get any all weekend. we had stopped for dinner on the way and had many many snacks (i made honey joys and choc crackle mmmm) so we signed in and signed up for our classes. because we were so late (we couldnt go earlier because some of the girl's host parents wouldn't let them off earlier!!) the class we were most hoping for - ice cream making - had filled up. but that was ok, we ended up signing up for mainly the same classes. i did kite making, graphic design (looked at logos and made our own), self defence (no actual moves taught just about safety, blah boring), theatre sports (done it all before), unique games (this one was awesome!) and family games (lots of running around outside, lots of fun!). The first four were done on the saturday, the last two sunday morning. but back to us checking in.... we found out that 5 of us were in 2 ajoining rooms, with one girl across the hall (and the other 2 girls in seperate buildings) but when me and the 2 girls sharing my room got up there...it had other peoples bags in it!! a bunch of german girls original room had been booked, so instead of giving them a new room they gave them ours, so then WE had to be moved!! it was so ridiculous and we had to haul our stuff to a whole new building away from the others. Sarah and I ended up heading to bed at about 230am because we stayed up late talking, so the wake up in the morning was a bitch. breakfast wasn't too bad and then we started the classes. after first two was lunch, then another two, then a large period of free time. we all decided to hit the kayaks on the lake...i went in a double one with frannie and it was the first time i have ever done any water sports, so i was so excited. we kayaked from one side of the lake to the other - thats 3 miles!!!! (about 4.8kms) so i was so excited and proud. it was lots of fun and i would love to do it again. then the night activities began - a pantomime where they got random aupairs to jump up on stage and join in (this was hilarious!) then a great game of pictionary and charades where I (well prob all the aussies) hurt my throat screaming so much! after this was free ice cream and then a disco. the disco was pretty good considering. we all sat on the porch after and sung aussie songs and played what would you rather; then once we split up to our rooms, sarah and i ended up sitting outside (not sure what time maybe midnight??) just about to go in, when an american guy who had been in a wedding they had at the same venue, same time, came over to chat to us. he ended up being really nice and we went up to his room for a few beers with him, and some other american guys/girls. there was one guy who had been to australia, on uni exchange in sydney. we ended up getting to bed at 430 and having to wake up 3 hours later!!! needless to say the next day i was ridiculously tired, but we had two classes (each class over the weekend went for about 1 1/2 - 2 hrs) of games so that perked me up a bit. after that was dismissal, so we had some lunch and got on the road. we took our time getting home but there wasnt as much traffic so it took about the 4hours. we stopped in at an outlet shopping store on the way, and once we got back home, we dropped lou off and then all headed back out to the movies (yes we are masochists running on no sleep) to see 'the proposal' (so sad so funny) then i think my head finally hit the pillow at 1am?
overall it was a fantastic weekend, great getaway with the girls and easy quick way to do our credit points. that took care of 3, and i need to do 6 in all so most of the girls also have 3 left, so we are thinking of going back to silverbay in september.
my family has left for rhode island to visit eileen's brother, so i had this afternoon (thurs) off and tomorrow as well as my usual weekend. i only found out this week, so i didnt make any get away plans, but thats ok because there is already plans here in town and in the city for sat/sun. i was going to go into the city tomorrow but i might just have a relaxing day because i been working so much and i need to do my silverbay assignments too (5 pages about myself, 5 pages about anything american).
