One Week...

Okay well to begin with, I'll have to admit I sort of, kind of, a little bit stole this idea off one of the other aupair girls in my Aussie group! Sorry Sarah! But in my defence I had planned on doing regular blogs on myspace...and this just seemed like a better way to do it!

So...one week....
One week until I am up up and away, flying in the air on my way to America
One week until I am completely overwhelmed with more emotions then I thought possible
One week until I have to lug heavy bags around no less then FIVE airports (oh I can't wait!)
One week until I meet 13 other girls on the same journey as me
One week until I meet my dream city...New York, New York baby!

So a quick overview.... I (in one week, in case you couldn't tell!) am leaving on the 5th January 2009 to America to be an aupair. An aupair is basically a fancy word for a nanny. I will be looking after triplet boys (crazy!!) who will be 4 when I get them, and this job will be shared between me and another nanny Evelyn, from Panama, who I am yet to meet. Oh and of course...the boys lovely parents!

I will be living in a little town about 20 minutes out of Philadelphia,Pennsylvania - which for those that don't know is on the East coast of America. Its about 1 hour from the capital Washington D.C and about 2 hours from New York City!

I am so excited to soak up another country's culture, meet other aupairs from all around the world and learn about their lives and their cultures, to explore new cities and sites and land...but most of all to see New York. I have been having a love affair with the city from affair, for many years now, and I am now going to get to put this into reality. I fell in love with the romantic, culture infused, energetic, one-of-a-kind New York that you see in the movies, read about in the books, and see photos of all the time.

My plan is to go into the city every weekend (my days off) and explore every inch of it - not just the touristy things, but the nitty gritty and get a feel for what its like to live there.

My hopeful first stops will be:
Central Park - I haven't yet decided what features I'll see first!
Chelsea - To see an inspiring gallery
5th Avenue - For the infamous shopping
The Markets - To find a bargain
East Village - To soak up the people

I should be off to bed, considering I have so much left to do in this last week....Pack, organise, Pack some more, say goodbyes and more packing!
